The College Football Committee bumps Miami up over Notre Dame. Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua criticized the committee and their means of selection in an interview stating, “As I said to (head coach Marcus Freeman), one thing is for sure: Any rankings or show prior to this last one is an absolute joke and a waste of time. Why put these young student-athletes through these false emotions just to pull the rug out from underneath them having not played a game in two weeks and then a group of people in a room shatter their dreams without explanation?”

The Fighting Irish would’ve played BYU in the Pop-Tart Bowl, arguably would’ve the best non-playoff game.
It’s reported that the committee’s decision, led by Hunter Yuracheck came down to strength of schedule between Miami and Notre Dame. Committee members stating both teams had “similar” schedules, a determination came from the head to head matchup that had already taken place in the first week of the year, Miami winning 27-24 over Notre Dame.
Looking at schedules side by side there is no clear differentiation, Notre Dame’s 70-7 victory over Syracuse would shade Miamis win of 38-10 the week before with both teams being at home against Syracuse.
