Looking back at November 15th, Oklahoma waltzed off a bye into Tuscaloosa and gave Alabama their second loss at that point in the season, defensively Oklahoma was able to overpower the Tide early, reading pass protection, shutting down the run game in the 1st half, and forcing turnovers while establishing unrelenting edge pressure forced Ty Simpson to rush his progression creating an uncomfortable 1st half. Losing 7 yards on a sack and a late pick six gave Oklahoma the lead early.
Oklahomas defense could’ve had several more turnovers if not for self inflicted errors with pass interference and lack of urgency to a loose ball. Obviously Oklahoma will have needed to adjust offensively since their last bout with the Tide, The Sooners inconsistency on 3rd and medium and ineffective passing gave Alabama several opportunities to close the lead in the 2nd quarter.
Alabama took advantage of the flaws in Oklahoma’s coverage, receivers were able to gain yardage after the catch for explosive scoring plays and big conversions keeping them in the game. Despite Oklahoma’s top ranked defense, Simpson gained 326 yards through the air.

My Predictions:
This should be another physical and chippy game, don’t be surprised to see unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, and taunting penalty’s from extra curricular activities after the whistle. Head coach of the Sooners Brent Venables has called the plays on defense this season, the ability to read quarterbacks and disguise schemes gives an undeniable edge over even Heisman contenders.
Alabama’s hopefully regrouped as they come off their excruciating loss to a dominant Georgia, and Oklahoma has had plenty of time to clean up their offense since LSU. I’m taking Oklahoma to cover at least -2.5 based on their defensive consistency, this time around hopefully their chances of winning won’t rely solely on one side of the ball.
